Classes abroad

The School of Political Science and Public Administration supports and creates opportunities for students of the School to study abroad in many ways, both in full-scale study in the curriculum’s educational structure and in short-term courses. We believe that studying abroad can develop students’ potential in many aspects in a short period of time.

For full-scale study, the Political Science Program, School of Political Science and Public Administration, has specified in the curriculum’s educational structure that students majoring in ASEAN Studies must travel to study languages in ASEAN countries, according to the language that each student has chosen as their specialty. According to the study plan, students will travel to study abroad in the third semester of their third year. Studying in foreign classrooms will be systematic and formal. Students must attend classes and study according to the study plan jointly designed between the Political Science Program and the foreign educational institution. The results of the students’ studies will be transferred to the grade level in the curriculum’s educational structure.

The Political Science Program has made academic cooperation agreements with several universities in ASEAN countries, and each university is ready to accept students to study. Currently, the universities under this cooperation project are:

1) State University of Malang, Indonesia

2) State University of Surabaya, Indonesia

3) University of Trunojoyo Madura, Indonesia

4) Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia

5) Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia and

6) Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia

For studying at these universities in the ASEAN region, in addition to studying languages and academics with native speakers in the classroom, the teaching and learning also covers arts and culture classes, field trips, community living, volunteering and community service activities, with a foreign tutor or buddy system that will closely support and take care of each student throughout their study abroad.

Cooperative education abroad

Cooperative education is a part of the curriculum that supports students to gain real-world experience from working at a business after they have accumulated knowledge and theories at a certain level. Walailak University’s cooperative education management is systematic, with the Cooperative Education and Career Development Center facilitating the process and coordinating between the curriculum and the business to maximize the efficiency of training and taking care of students throughout the cooperative education period.

The cooperative education of the School of Political Science and Public Administration requires students to work at a business for at least 1 semester, approximately 16 weeks. Students will choose the business they wish to work at. The quality of the business is assessed and interviewed to determine the suitability of each student. The curriculum operates in collaboration with the Cooperative Education and Career Development Center, including the organization of an advisory faculty to supervise and coordinate with students and business throughout the work period until the students finish their work and must present their work results to the curriculum.

Recognizing the contemporary phenomenon where the world is more closely connected in many areas, the School of Political Science and Public Administration emphasizes that students will be able to open their worldviews and seek new experiences, with the whole world as their place of work and learning. Therefore, there is a policy to support students to travel to do cooperative education at foreign workplaces. In this regard, the school has a network of workplaces that the curriculum and faculty have contacted and coordinated with, and is ready to take care of and train students seriously throughout the working period in various types of work for students to choose according to their interests, such as agencies and institutes in educational institutions, foreign government agencies, tourism offices, private companies in tourism and hospitality, companies in the industrial sector, arts and culture agencies, museums, private development organizations and NGOs, etc.

Student exchange

The School of Political Science and Public Administration has set a plan for the Student Exchange Program with foreign educational institutions as one of the important activities of the School, realizing that expanding the boundaries of students’ experiences to meet people, societies, and cultures abroad is essential for studying and learning in a rapidly changing world like today. The Student Exchange Program is an official channel under the supervision of the School where students will receive such opportunities and experiences without difficulty. It is a project that is like the first door that will lead students to familiarity and not alienate themselves with other people and societies, to the point that they can make the world their own space in the future.

Currently, the program that is mainly responsible for student exchange activities of the School is the Political Science Program. The organization of the student exchange program is an activity that is specified in the academic cooperation agreement with almost every foreign educational institution that the Political Science Program is responsible for. Through these agreements, student exchanges will be certified and fully supervised by both educational institutions to maximize the benefits for students participating in the program and strengthen academic relations between each other.

The Political Science Program has set the initial plan of the student exchange program to focus on exchanges with educational institutions in the ASEAN region to support the study plan of the ASEAN Studies major. This will cover activities such as sending students of the program to join summer camps and short-term language learning programs as negotiated with educational institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia. At the same time, the program will take care of exchange students from Indonesia and Malaysia who will travel to join the cultural learning and cooperative education program.

Students of the program will have direct contact and experiences with the people and society of neighboring countries, which can inspire them to learn more seriously. Meanwhile, international students who travel under the program’s care will be new friends who add color to the teaching of the program. They can be basic language teachers for students and are friendly and helpful when students travel abroad according to their study plans.
