The Political Science Program Coached Students in Comprehension and Summarizing Skills
March 2, 2022
The abilities of comprehending and summarizing key ideas from reading, listening, and other forms of information acquisition are vital to the basis of a student learning for both classroom study and the development of their own academic work. For this purpose, the Political Science Program provided students with a comprehension and summarization practice. This activity was carried out online through Zoom in the afternoon of Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
The exercise began with Program lecturers sharing their experiences with students’ struggles in writing and summarizing significant ideas, followed by instruction on how to acquire these abilities. Students were then separated into twelve groups to apply the techniques they had just learned by reading articles, viewing short video clips, and writing summaries of their assignments. At the conclusion, students presented their own group works, and lecturers provided guidance and examples of summarizing from the same sources for students to observe.
This activity was part of the Student Skills Development Project of the Political Science Program. The following activity will focus on enhancing the writing and academic reference skills of students in order to boost their future academic work.
