Weerasak Chansongsaeng's Nonfiction Writing Workshop for ASEAN Studies Students

February 19, 2022

The ASEAN Studies Program hosted a nonfiction writing activity for second-year students. Weerasak Chansongsaeng, a renowned documentary writer and executive editor of Sarakadee Magazine,  was invited as a speaker and writing instructor for students at this workshop.

The workshop spanned across two days. On the first day of class, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Weerasak began by teaching on the fundamentals of nonfiction writing, sharing his expertise in the field of documentary writing, and providing students with samples of nonfiction works. At the conclusion of the session, the trainer assigned students to write their own assignments. Then, on the second day of the training, on Friday, February 18, 2022, students presented the works they had been practicing and exchanged opinions with their classmates and Weerasak, who provided feedback on their work.

This workshop was one of three activities scheduled by the ASEAN Studies Program to increase the academic abilities of students enrolled in ASE60-204 Seminar on Contemporary Issues in ASEAN. These activities seek to give students with a range of academic skill practice prior to studying abroad, where they will gather field data and document in the language of their place of study, to be turned into a project in their fourth year.
